I'm looking for a PCI (not Express) version of the Geforce 6200 for an OEM box. I read that manufacturers did not have to specify 64-bit or 128-bit memory addressing for the card. Some questions I had. Thanks in advance!

1. Can you tell 64-bit from 128-bit with just a visual inspection of the card?
2. Are there specific brands that are known to use 128-bit?
3. Does PCI bus have anything to do with ability to address 128-bit? [UPDATE: My FX5500 PCI is 128-bit, I believe, so the answer is no.]
4. Does 128-bit make a real-world difference?

1. No.

2. I'm not sure I've ever actually run into a vanilla PCI version of the 6200 that was 128-bit. I seem to recall searching for that back in the day. The 128-bit ones were AGP or PCI-e. If someone made it, I suspect it would have been Jaton.

4. Absolutely. The 64-bit ones were called "crippled" for a reason 😉. And as I recall, the difference was more acute on vanilla PCI systems.

Are you looking for a second card for this box? Otherwise what are you trying to accomplish with the 6200 that you couldn't with the 5500? Neither were all that beefy.

visually if the 6200 have empty spaces for ram it's normally 64 (or even 32) bit, if it have 8 ram chips it's 128bits for sure I think
you can also research the memory chips on google and you will know depending on how many are installed the total memory width

Yes, for slightly irrational reasons. 😀

I'd like to put the "best" PCI card with 98SE drivers in the box. I'd really like to benchmark the 6200 PCI against the two FX5500s I have (one 64-bit, one 128-bit). I'd only do it if I can get a 128-bit 6200 for cheap.

I also found this page that purports to distinguish between 64-bit and 128-bit models:

I have a feeling that 6200 64bit will handily beat 5500 128bit. Even 5200 Ultra is slower than a Geforce 3.

The 6200 topic has been discussed quite a bit here too. Search the forum for tidbits.
