Does anyone know which EMS boards are compatible with the Tandy 1000 line?
I found an Acculogic RampAT (not plus) but don't want to spend the money
if it won't work. I would order a board from LoTech but I'm not confident in
my surface mount soldering, and he never seems to have anything but bare boards
in stock these days (no kits, no assembled boards).

Thanks

Here are the few that I'm aware of:

  • Acculogic's, "RAMpAT! Plus"
  • Invisible Software's, "Invisible EMS"
  • Micro Mainframe's, "EMS-5150(T)"
  • PC Enterprises', "XTRA-K"

I own and use both the Acculogic and Micro Mainframe boards in Tandy 1000 TL/2 and SL systems, respectively. The Acculogic board is the better of the two, being hardware LIM EMS 4.0 compatible, and supporting up to 16MB of RAM. Having also owned a regular, non-"Plus" Acculogic card (one of which had been available on eBay until yesterday), I can tell you that it will not operate in an 8-bit slot.

An Intel Above Board variant is also described as working in Tandy 1000 systems, however, I've yet to see one that could actually fit into one of these systems.

I think I'm just going to have to be happy with 640k then.
I really wanted to try OS/2 1.3 or maybe DR Dos and see
how well multi-tasking would have worked on that type
of system.

Thanks for your response, Cloudschatze.
