My next build will be a Socket A-based Win98SE system. I have a Soyo SY-K7VTA Pro and plan to drop in an Athlon XP 2400+ once it arrives. This board is limited to a 266MHz FSB.
While sourcing a heatsink and fan, I decided to buy a retail boxed Sempron 2800+ with the AMD heatsink/fan, which turned out to be cheaper than many Socket A heatsink/fan combos by themselves.
I'm curious if I can do anything with the Sempron and the Soyo board. It is a 333MHz FSB CPU with a 12x multiplier.
If I use it with the Soyo board, will it act like a 1.6GHz (133 x 12) Sempron? Or will it not work at all? I realize that the XP 2400+ will be faster, but I'm just curious.
Had some trouble finding an answer to what seemed to me to be a common question.
