Hello my dear and respected Vogons.

I would like to know, is there any possibility to make old 3D windows games like Monkey Island 4 and Grim Fandango run in better resolution?

I would REALLY love to play Grim Fandango on 1280x1024 😉

Hmm, the easiest thing to do is force FSAA. That's what I did for several games that always were stuck at 640x480 like The Longest Journey.

Yes, it’s my fault.

And how do I force this... FSAA?

FSAA means 'Full Screen Anti Aliasing'. It will not increase the resolution, but it will make the display look better by smoothing the image. You can force FSAA by doing so in the driver of your video card.

Plus, there's a(n unofficial) patch for Monkey Island 4 which allows you
to play it in a higher resolution.
It works because it has something to do with... erm... all sorts of
technical gibberish which I'll spare you from (and me, since I didn't quite
get it either ;p).

Anyway, check the attachment, and try it out.
Remember, it's an UNOFFICIAL patch, made by fans.

The Anti Aliasing (FSAA) is quite good too though.
If the patch doesn't work, or whatever, definitely try that. Helps a bunch. :)

Erm... about Grim Fandango... you can only try using FSAA.
As you might know, Grim Fandango uses prerendered backgrounds.
A similiar patch to Monkey Island 4's screen resolution thinghy is in
fact possible, but since the backgrounds are only (I believe) 800x600,
those are getting pretty small when you run the game in 1024x786 or
something similiar to that.
Maybe someone will find a solution to that one day (like resizing the
backgrounds and reinserting them in the game), but until then, we'll
just have to do with FSAA.

Tell me if the patch for EFMI works nicely by the way. I haven't yet
tried it out myself, and I'm eager to know.

I'd like to know how to do FSAA as I want to see if it makes an improvement on Quest for Glory 4.

My video card is: NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200

Ok I got the answer!
First download and install the latest Nvidia drivers (ForeWare).

Then download and install ForeWare Coolbits (the installation plain is marging an registry file).

Then do this thing by going to the Nvidia display properties:

You just need to go to "Preformance & Quality", choose "Antialiasing Settings", disable the "Application-controlled", and choose "x4". Then press "Ok".`
