Is this connection possible? I read something about Audigy 2 and cable modification, but I also read that Live! Drive IR is compatible with Sound Blaster Audigy 1 Platinum (SB0090).

Should be compatible. Creative didn't change the connector until the Audigy 2 drivebay came out. The only difference from the Live!Drive IR and the Audigy one is the latter has a Firewire port on it, which is wired separate.

To clarify, the SB Live! and Audigy use the AUD_EXT connector to interface with the drive bay breakout boxes and should be compatible. The Audigy 2ZS and X-Fi use the AD_EXT connector and require a later revision of the breakout box.

I have the same card + the original Audigy drive bay here. Does the optical out jack light up when the computer is on? Creative documents the pin outs of the Live and Audigy connectors, I can't imagine them being different. Hey you never know. The original cable was keyed, but otherwise the same as an IDE cable.
