I'll have to wait a few years as I only have A1200... but it's getting there slowly 😉

Visit my AmiBay items for sale (updated: 2025-08-01). I also take requests 😉

It was just THE shit to have an A500 back in 1987 to 1989.
My friends had Amiga's, so I never felt the need to buy one back then.
It was like allmost the same thing, as consoles are today.

Never got into the Commodore thing. 😀

It's not too late! 😀

First thing would be... "Commodore" tends to mean C64, VIC20, PET. In a ghastly shortened version, Commodore bought Amiga, and is also blamed with killing it by neglect and serial incompetence.

Saying Amigas are Commodores is nothing as bad as calling a Land Rover a "Jeep", but there is a distinction worth knowing.

Commodore bought Amiga

Bizarrely enough, they bought it from Atari.
That is, the Amiga company was started by Jay Miner and a group of other engineers from Atari, when Atari was not interested in developing a 16-bit machine.
Amiga then looked for investors, and Atari invested in them.
In some bizarre negotiation deal, Commodore paid back the investment to Atari, and took ownership of Amiga, which cancelled any rights Atari would otherwise have on usage of the Amiga chipset. Atari simply didn't quite know what hit them. Then they had to rush out the Atari ST to respond.

I think it was more like clone PC's killed Amiga/Commodore and there was nothing they could've done to prevent it. The time of the home computer was pretty much over when the cheap PC's started to flood the market with VGA graphics and better sound cards in the early 90's.

edit: Also 16-bit consoles, which took care of the platform genre.
