...and i'm not impressed by it.
Well, let's put it this way. My experience during the Voodoo days was exclusively via a Voodoo Banshee, manufactered by Creative. The bugger ran hot, so me and my brother modded it with a fan to cool it. It did bring the heat down, and we could further overclock it by increasing its speed via Windows tools.
The Voodoo Banshee served me pretty well. I had it installed in an AMD K6-300 system that served us extremely well through the years. I played so many great games. One of the things i do remember about the Banshee was its fast 2D core. And it served me pretty well in Glide games as well.
Now installed in my AMD K6-III+ 400, i have the Voodoo 2 working with the S3 Trio64. The S3 isn't recognized by its wonderful VGA quality signal, but rather by its DOS compatibility. I noticed that the Voodoo 2 degrades the image quality quite a bit. I know the passthrough cable influences the signal quality, but sincerely for me i just feel that i won't need a DOS/Windows 98 box. So i will rather keep this machine DOS capabilities and i'll get rid of Windows 98 altogether. I could also get my Banshee back, or even try to find the very much superior Voodoo 3 in its rare PCI form, but i'll lose some DOS compatibility. I don't know if maybe using an S3 Virge could do any better, i never used Virge cards, so i can't comment on their build quality and VGA signal quality output.
I found that using nGlide wrapper in Windows 7 works great. I've been playing Sports Car GT and it supports a lot of games so i just don't see the need for a Windows 98 box.
End of rant.
