Hi all....
I have these two favorite games of mine. NFS-Porsche-2000 and UT99. However they have issues on too new hardware, yet still Win98 machines. And I would like to know how to get rid of those issues.

NFS-2000:
When the hardware is too potent, stuff like GF4 and GF-FX5200. The game has some wierd issues regarding the text in the menu.
This can be solved with a simple tweak like AAx2 on the GF4 and AAx4 on FX-5200.
However. This makes the keyboard lockup or the mouse and keyboard lockup. Both in the menu and when I am driving.
I just can not seem to get rid of this issues. Remember, it is still within Win98. Is there a patch of some sort for this?

UT99:
This is a somewhat strange issue. It is texture-error of some sort. For instance. When I play "Facing worlds", the tower is not drawn
coorectly. In the distance, or the enemy tower so to speak. Other issues are stuff like windows/square lamps having jaggered pixels.
Or something like that. Cards like TNT2 and V3-3500 does not have this issue, yet I would like to play this game too on higher HW.

Do any of you know something about how to fix these issues. NFS-2000 is unplayable like this (on the highend HW), and UT99
is just something that is really annoying to look at. Not that it's unplayable, just a pain to look at when I know it's there.
Games that are from a later era, just not have these issues. Or at least, I have not had any issues with those games. (yet).

Thanks in advance.

I have UT99, so I can test that. But I don't have NFS-Porsche-2000.

The machine I'm currently working on is a 3.06 Pentium 4 and whatever graphics card I feel like using 😀

Let me say, that these games that I have, is the barebone-first-release-editions. Nothing like "Gold", "Extreme" or "Millennium-edition" or anything like that, which publishers had a weird fetish to call them by. (remember when everything was to be named "2000/Millennium edition", and not only Windows)

I have the UT99 GOTY edition and it runs perfectly on anything from Windows 98 to a modern Windows 8 machine.

That's something I admire a lot. The ability to run on any machine from 2000 to today regardless of Windows version and hardware.

So, sorry I haven't encountered the issue you're facing. Maybe try a patch or later revision.

Going to hunt down an update. That's for shure. Yet most of all, I am looking for the cause of these issues.
Perhaps it's the render that's causing the problem, or it is some low quality textures that I have on mine.
The other thing, is the NFS2000. It is really strange that the keyboard and the mouse locks up in the game.

Definitely patch Unreal Tournament up to version 4.36:

Then look through these links to see what you might need or want:

Got it all working now, on an P3-933 + GF4-ti4200.

What I did, was to update NFS-2K to official 3.5
And updated UT99 to version 436.
Then I cranked up AA to X4 in the nvidia panel.

Everything is just working nice. Played NFS-2K for an hour without any lockups.
UT99 is just rendered beautifully and without any glitches whatsoever at all.

Thanks for all the help here. 😀 Two of my top 5 most loved games, are now working 100%
And I can now go beyond GF2, V3 or G400 on these two games.
Radeon9800 did have issues, yet they were minor. Only few GFX errors in UT99.
Unpatched/vanilla/first-edition, these two games are just a bitch on nVidia cards, higher than GF2.

NFS Porsche 2000, as I recall, had a problem with widescreen monitors on newer systems (like Win XP).
Worked fine with normal resolution (4:3).

If it is vanilla edition, it has these issues on post-gf2 in win98.
That is for shure.
