It's more about imagination, but, what socket/slot would you want they to release a special version and the dream specifications 😁

Mine would be:
a Super Socket 7 processor, 1GHz clock processor that could downclock without any problem to 66MHz, and also some virtual downclock that could reach 4MHz.
The processor should have 256kb L1 cache and 4mb L2 cache (and both could be disabled).
the FSB should work fine btw 66MHz at max 133MHz.
the FPU should be much more powerfull than a K6-III+ and had the performance as a Pentium 3 1GHz coppermine.
also the TDP should be around 3 - 10Watts.

This way I would have the perfect cpu for all almosy any era of gamming 🤣

Easy, some overblown 486... Perhaps, a Pentium OverDrive with a silly multiplier. Imagine 333MHz on that platform, it would be completely pointless!

Probably be better if it sat on a little daughterboard, much like those interposers for lower voltage CPUs, which allowed you to fiddle with the multipier. That would be useful for, say, getting it to work on a 66MHz BUS.

I'd prefer if they did some new motherboards + CPU limited edition bundles 😀

386DX for sure, 486DX2 or DX4 would also be cool.

an ATX 486 board would be wonderful , no doubt about that.

Or Pentium IV Monster Edition 6 Ghz with FSB 800 and Socket 478 and all AMD one core Athlons will be crushed 🤣 Or onecore Athlon64 for Socket939 with 4Ghz 🤣

On the serious side. Either of the following.

Socket 7, software controlled multipliers up to say 20, on-die cache controlled with software, package with integrated VRM and heatsink with a standard size replaceable 3-pin fan

AMD K6-3+
Intel Pentium MMX

Both with

Gateway 2000 Case and 200-Watt PSU
Intel SE440BX-2 Motherboard
Intel Pentium III 450 CPU
Micron 384MB SDRAM (3x128)
Compaq Voodoo3 3500 TV Graphics Card

Not yet 'oldschool' but I would like Intel to build a working Pentium 4 'Tejas' sample 😉.

Older clock-doubled/tripled CPU's would have my interest too: 8088SX/2, 286SX/2 or 386DX/4. (486DX/6 200MHz, anyone? 😀)

thandor.net - hardware
And the rest of us would be carousing the aisles, stuffing baloney.

Tejas & Jayhawk, Intel's 40-50 stage pipeline version of Netburst architechture. Because I need the ultimate in home heating!

Cyrix Joshua/Jalapeno, the next step on from the 6X86MX/MII chips. I have always had a soft spot for Cyrix so it would have been nice to see them carry on(i never cared a bean for Quake!). http://www.cpushack.com/2012/10/31/cyrix-josh … s-to-the-bible/

Cayenne core might have been pretty good, faster FPU, 256K 8-way associative on-die L2 cache & 3DNOW!. I think the Jedi on super 7 might have made more sense than than the Gobi on 370, but in my dreamland I would have both.

Both these architechtures exist at least in engineering samples, previews. So I want a board and CPU combo of each in ATX 😀

wouldn't say no to an Intel Timna either, pretty much a Celeron media GX mashup done by intel israel, would be nice to play around with their first project before the awesome Pentium M.

Either a dual core (as two dies a la the Pentium D) Pentium III or Slot A Athlon.

The thing that really disappoints me about the transition from cartridges to discrete chips is that cartridges were perfect for dual cores given the technology of the day. Two or more processors could easily fit on each cartridge.

Another thing would be for AMD to follow up on its promises with the original Athlon and make one with an absurdly large cache.

Dual Katmai Pentium III (450 and 600MHz), 512ish MB RAM, 40 GB HDD, ATI Rage 128 | K6-2 400MHz / Pentium MMX 166, 80MB RAM, ~2GB Quantum Bigfoot, Awful integrated S3 graphics.

Also will be good to see 286 with 40 or 50 Mhz with ATX mainboard with 8 Mb RAM, and Slot A Athlon with 1,4 or 1,6 Ghz with mainboard with SATA and DDR1 slots.

For me it's easy definitely an AMD K6 tuned for the Retro Gamer. It would have a large selection of multipliers to allow the reach of various speeds. I think that even a modern tech process would not allow a K6 design to go much further than 1GHz, but it would be cool to see the CPU interpret and actually run at a fraction of the clock speed so that we could simulate other CPU's.

The hell with it, integrate a multi CPU on a CPU, like an 8088, 80286, 80386, 80486, Pentium, all in the same die. It would require a special motherboard, but we would only need one retro system. Just make sure the motherboard has enough ISA slots for my sound cards. 🤣

That would be nice too, Like that new commodore 64 motherboard that you can replace the old one, and has some plus on it.

I would like a super socket 7 that could support the 8digit display to show the cpu clock up to 999, also the motherboard would only have atx conector, but the motherboard would come with a build in atx to at adaptor and there would be just some cables plugin the at switch.

That would be awesome! I've seen the C64 motherboard, it's a really good idea.

486dx plus an ATX mobo to go with it.
The CPU has to be able to run from 25 to 130mhz using a single jumper and the mobo has to have button cell battery, ps2 mouse/keyboard and have PCI, ISA and VL-Bus slots. 72-pin memory? Shure, why not...

Don't eat stuff off a 15 year old never cleaned cpu cooler.
Those cakes make you sick....
