Phil, is those the official drivers that would come on a install cd?

3dfx didn't have a generic 3dfx install CD for their first 4 chips. You'd end up with vendors like Diamond and Orchid instead with customized and branded drivers included with their cards.

Well, back in the day, long time ago, when I bought my Voodoo, I believe it was an Orchid, it came with an Orchid installation CD and Orchid software / drivers.

The Internet wasn't really around, so game magazines would put newer 3dfx reference drivers onto their CDs. That's how I got my updates.

The latest reference driver should work fine. Also check out that third party driver.

then it would've been a 3dfx Voodoo2 1000, their post-STB release version.

Practically any Voodoo Graphics (Voodoo 1) card has 3Dfx chips but is sold by a different vendor than 3Dfx itself. Often you'll find cards from Diamond, A-Trend, Innovision, Guillemot or Orchid (and others I forgot to mention).

If you show a photo of the card you have (preferably back- and frontside of the card) then I can identify which vendor shipped your card.

You can use the latest reference 3dfx drivers with version V3.01.00 on any card.

If you want "original" drivers then you have to find out which brand you really have and then find the corresponding drivers. My experience is that you're better off with the latest reference 3dfx drivers because they are mature.

3dfx didn't make these cards themselves (they did from v3 and up), simply use a standard v1 3dfx driver and it will work perfectly.

So you have a 'Cardex Dragon 1000'. Cardex is the vendor and 'Dragon 1000' is the name of the card. Because manufacturers like Cardex just follow 3Dfx' standard reference design they look and behave like any other normal 3Dfx Voodoo Graphics card. You can use the regular 3Dfx drivers as said before, but if you insist on using the original drivers (which I would not recommend) you can go here because Vogons acutally has a copy of the driver disk in the library 😀.

That is DirectX. Just get DirectX 7 or 8 and you'll be fine.

Direct3D is part of DirectX. Did it install correctly and just asked you to update Direct3D? Does the card work correctly in DXDIAG?

YES! Display 1 is the primary card, Display 2 is the Voodoo accelerator.
