I've been trying to run DOSBox in VirtualBox, everything works fine it's just that I'm having problems with the mouse. It's kinda jumpy, freezes from time to time and generally it's not usable. Is anyone able to help with my problem?

Thanks 😀

Given that it works fine outside virtualbox, I think you are asking the wrong people.

If you'll explain why you practically needed to run DOSBox in VB then the theme may be useful. 😀 Also you have not said what guest OS was used in VB. DOSBox may work in Win9x and later. Even in DOS with HX DOS Extender.
Slaanesh will be pleased.

Have you tried turning off VirtualBox's mouse integration? Normally it installs drivers in the guest OS so you can seamlessly transition between the host OS and the guest OS by just moving the mouse into the VirtualBox window, but I suspect it does this by emulating a tablet (i.e. by reporting the mouse position in absolute coordinates instead of relative ones.) If you turn off the integration and go back to "locking" the mouse inside VirtualBox, then it should go back to behaving like a normal mouse again, and then it may work better with DOSBox.

Turning off VirtualBox's mouse integration will help improve mouse usage in subvirtual PC emulators including DOSBox, VirtualPC, Bochs and even Qemu. 😀

Ehm, so the reason is that at work McAfee doesn't scan .vdi files for games and stuff, so in VB I can install and play games while stuff is compiling (which can be up to two - three hours a day, our main product is huge). So far HoMM3 works fine, wanted to try settlers and hit a wall with the mouse issue 😒

can you have Dosbox on your machine? Because you maybe if you put the games in disk images you can skip the VM and jsut imgmount the disk image in dosbox to play...

I suppose dosbox has portable installation? They I should be fine. I'll look into the disk image thing, never done that before. Thanks 😀

You may place dosbox.conf in the folder with dosbox.exe and it becomes portable.
