Hi guys. I found a cheap working 3D Labs Wildcat - either the VP790 or VP970 on a local website and I'm thinking of buying it. Anything special about the card? It seems to be AGP 2x/4x and has 64MB of DDR running on a 256 bit bus.

This is a Workstation Card,
not meant for gaming.

its for CAD applications, with very stable drivers.
Solid Works / Solid Edge, Lightwave are the discipline of this card.

I have one of these in my slot A box. Nice image quality. Best matched to slot A or socket 462 [or intel equivalent]. Trounced by a GF Ti4 of course. Drivers have a lot a games optimisation settings but as above, it's not really a games card. Creative bought up 3dlabs and I think issued a consumer version of this, but it didn't catch on I guess.

The numbering xy0 - x relates to the gpu speed so 9>8>7>5. y relates to memory - 6=>64mb, 7=>128mb, 8=>256mb, 9=>512mb.

As far as I recall there are 560 [64mb], 760 [faster,64mb], 870[faster again, 128mb], 880[256mb], 970[faster, 128mb], 990[512mb].

I doubt 5 should be in the line, it was another chip after all.
