Going to be gone for quite a few months next year and will most likely not have personal internet access so I plan to setup some LAN games.

I'm a little out of date since all my LAN gaming was done with Quake, Duke3D, ROTT, Doom, UT, Falcon 3, Mechwarrior, R6, TV etc etc.

Ports, Maps, Addons, etc are welcome.

Other old ones of course - Warcraft 1/2/3, Diablo II

Dawn of War

+private WoW server is not too hard to set up in a basic state with mangos [whether it's worth playing or your cup of tea is another matter]

There's a pretty comprehensive list of popular LAN party games at Reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/lanparty/wiki/gamelist

Unfortunately it isn't complete in terms of the offline LAN support column.

I hardly played any LAN games in my life but don't most games made between 1995 and 2005 support LAN?

But since you asked for some recommendations.
- A-10 Cuba
- Future Cop: LAPD
- Battlezone 1998
- Need For Speed (NFS 2,3,4)
- Freespace 2 with the FSO mods.
- Carmageddon 1 and 2
- Mount and Blade Warband non Steam version (I don't know if the Steam version requires online)
- Battlestations Midway/Pacific

Left 4 dead 1 and 2 support lan. I tried it with my little bro's PC. Ran an ethernet cable thru a hole in the wall too!

There's those "Arena" games. <plug>OA</plug>, Q3A, Xonotic etc. QL's no longer an option due to Steam.

Saints Row 2 is LANable without the Gamespy service, not so much for 3 and 4.

Starsiege and Starsiege: Tribes.

There's also MetalTech Battledrome.

I should mention I had terrible sync issues with Battledrome back in the day, so that might not be a good LAN party thing. Netmech should be dandy though, for the DOS version to get away from all those icky windows compatibility problems

Zandronum 2.0 + samsara-git-940d110.pk3 + samsara_extraheroesv1.1ob3z22.pk3 might be a fun retro lan thing. It's pretty much a classic FPS Mugen in Doom2 (read: a big cast with no balance at all)

I am going to set up my old Core2Duo Mobo for a LAN party and I'm looking for some newer (2005-2011) games for LAN. I know I mentioned Left 4 Dead, but besides those I'd like to know some newer ones.

Main: AMD FX 6300 six core 3.5ghz (OC 4ghz)
16gb DDR3, Nvidia Geforce GT740 4gb Gfx card, running Win7 Ultimate x64
Linux: AMD Athlon 64 4000+, 1.5GB DDR, Nvidia Quadro FX1700 running Debian Jessie 8.4.0

If you get Starsiege I strongly recommend the "Multiplayer Campaign" missions. They're hard as hell and require ALOT of people cooperating at once.

Some of my more recent LAN games are:
FEAR (gets boring after a while when you have few players though)
UT3 (make sure you bring all the patches and the free titan add-on)
UT2004
BF2 (with AIX2 mod)

All of these are shooters though, I'm not really into offline RTS games anymore

Beside the good old ones(Doom, Heretic, Blood,...), here are some games I'm currently playing(LAN):

-Rainbow Six: Vegas 1 + 2*
-Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter
-Rise and Fall
-Titan Quest + Immortal Throne(Really enjoying this one)

*Vegas 2 only supports 2 players in Storymode. Vegas 1 supports up to 4 players in Storymode.

There are 2x LAN-Party(4 Players) coming up in the next 2 - 3 months. The first one is going to be oldschool, so we're going to play these games:

-Quake III Arena(standard maps - FFA)
-Blood(standard maps - Bloodbath or DeathWish - Cooperativ)
-Quake(standard maps - Deathmatch and/or one of the mission packs - Cooperative)
-DOOM(Some selfmade maps(at least one Episode) - Deathmatch(alternative or old dm))
-Heretic: SOTSR(pretty sure about 'skill 5' and 'respawn'.. funny part: Dome of D'Sparil 🤣 )
-DOOM II(Can't wait for this one: Hell Revealed + Hell Revealed 2 - Cooperativ)
-Duke Nukem 3D: Atomic[Not sure by now]
-Jazz Jackrabbit 2[Not sure either but would be funny 🤣 . Have to check out Jazz+ or what it's called]

I set up some nice old PCs for this one and can't wait to get into it *.*

For the second LAN, we're going to play this:

-Titan Quest: Immortal Throne
-Diablo[not totally sure about this one by now..]
-Diablo II: LOD(Hardcore chars)[Not sure]
-Age of Empires 2: The Forgotten Empires(FFA or 2 vs 2)
-Rise and Fall(probably teamed up together vs AI because 2 out of 4 don't know the game ^^)
-Midtown Madness[Not sure]
-Age of Empires 3[Not sure(I hope not... xD)]
-Lamentation Sword[Not sure]

I hope you'll be fine during whatever you're going to do and all set up with some enjoyable games to kill some time. 😀

If you like FPS, try some HL1 mods:

* Svencoop (great fun and very challenging)
* Day of Defeat (+Shrikebot)
* The Specialists
* Firearms
* Natural Selection
Last but not least, the classic Counter Strike 1.5 is always great at lanparties.

How about 2 player on the same PC?
Little Bro came over few months back and we played Mid 90's games like Dooms, C&C's, Warcraft's. BUT we also had loads of fun playing Micro machines 2, Rampart, Return fire when 1 PC was out of action for a bit
