I have a CT3900 AWE32. It has the 4.13 DSP but also the CT1747 bus interface, so there *should* be no illegitimate hanging notes.

I have a 4MB Dream synth DB on the card, but I also have 32MB of RAM that I use for loading a 25MB sound font.

I'm not exactly sure how to select between these two options for GM when I launch DOS games from a Windows DOS box.

Do the tick boxes in the Device Selection (see pic below) have anything to do with it? Thanks in advance for any help!

Try disabling that "Allow MPU401 emulation on the device" checkbox.

Maybe the mixer has an option too?

Thanks guys. I believe that checking the box uses the soundfont and unchecking the box uses the DB. I tested it with the Tyrian setup, which is a nice way to check all three banks, including the EMU8K.

I was having the hardest time understanding what "Allow MPU401 Emulation on this device" meant for the synths. Still not intuitive to me, I'm afraid.
