In an exchange shop, I spotted a Core 2 Duo (E6600 I think) for 3 quid, Some 1GB DDR2 for 75p a piece.

Now I've never owned a C2D, my old LGA775 system couldn't take one as an upgrade.

So if I can scrape up a cheap LGA775 motherboard, and a cheap case/PSU, I could be tempted - I'd probably have to think about making it a small case, maybe a VCR style case (but don't fancy the work in customizing a real VCR case). Might make it a Linux media box, if it would be up to it

Sounds like a decently capable all around little budget system for even moderate modern use. Could play some sweet late 2000s games on it too, make it tie into the whole gaming thing. I would suggest 4GB if the machine can take it, no other excuse going any lower these days.
