I need help getting Hardball 5 to work with DosBox version 0.74.

I have downloaded the freeware version that is most commonly found and copied it into a folder for DosBox to use. If I try to just start the game it gives me the following error:

[FATAL ERROR: File GMTOOLS.C, line 317

note: These errors are often related to not enough free memory to disk I/O problems. See the manual for more information.]

So I use the VM option to allow Hardball 5 to use virtual memory. When I start it afterwards it goes to a black screen and sits there. On the console it endlessly repeats the line:

[DYNX86:Can't run code in this page!]

Seems odd how it doesn't work because the official DosBox compatibility site says that 0.72 should be fine. I can't imagine it would lose compatibility in a newer version. 😜

I have pretty much the basic mountings. I have a folder (DosBoxGames) used for my Dos games, as well as my laptops dvd/rw drive on D.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hardball 5 is not freeware.

Than could you direct me to the company from which I can purchase it for PC? in case you are wondering, eBay does not count.

Come on people, the game isn't sold by the official site anymore. Hell, the game is basically only found on eBay.

The fact that your "cdaccess" doesn't even show up in the top results of a simple google search basically says that the site is about as reliable as a guy wearing a long coat selling a Rolex. GOG.com doesn't have it, Steam doesn't have it, and I sure am not wasting my money to buy it from some site of, what I can only assume are scammers.

Seriously, just google-search "buy hardball 5 pc" and the only thing that comes up is eBay (under shopping), and a bunch of abandonware sites.

Go to GOG and add the game to their wishlist.

If you want the shady copy then check out archive.org but don't ask for help here about it.

The difference is that cdaccess is selling an unused copy of the game, while what you get from eBay is probably used. You seem to want to argue your point for the argument's sake, but the truth is that you've been presented with a legitimate option for buying a first-hand copy of the software.
