That's a compact little mobo, Phil! I've been getting increasingly drawn to building a compact DOS build using an mATX Socket 7 board (hopefully with 2 ISA slots), a Pentium, S3 Trio, Voodoo1, AWE32 or SB16... would be a cool little build. Bonus points for putting it in a white Silverstone SG02 - the perfect tiny DOS build IMO! A bit pointless putting such a build into a 90eur case though...

In other news, I'm working on configuring Duriel, my Pentium 4 build. I chucked in my second WD Raptor 36GB and set up a RAID0 using the P4P800-E's onboard Promise FastTrack 378 controller. The array built perfectly, and Windows XP setup is installing to the freshly formatted array nicely! It's my first foray into RAID boot disks, and I'm hoping for screaming speed from these 10k RPM monsters!

Ha! Gets the job done 😀

I decided to bring some boxes of memory modules down, also because I was looking for some odd memory modules for another thread here on Vogons.
Personally I don't think it's worthwhile to note every single module, but I did want to know about my RIMMs for that s478 RDRAM board I got a month or 2 ago and to check for 30p SIMMs for the 2 SB32s and this one SB32 upgrade board I "rediscovered"

I somehow noticed I had forgotten to check my box of VLB cards. Wasn't looking forward to it, as I remembered I had mostly crap.
Turned out I have only 9 VLB boards in total and I remember why: I never bothered collecting them as I thought it was a technical dead end anyway, still remember having found an Ati Mach64 VLB board and decided not to bring it...then when I got home and googled it, I was like *woops!* 😊

But anyway, got only a couple but to my surprise 2 of them are S3 Trio64 😁 One has a cracked tantalum-thingy cap though and I remember I got them from Ebay years ago. I think I was the only bidder and for some reason the seller send me the 2 cards instead of the single one I was bidding on 🤣. Perhaps because the seller noticed the second one was bad or perhaps even because he knew both are bad and send me 2 cards to lift his feelings of guilt...one can never know. I don't think I even bothered testing them when I got them as I was working on other stuff at the time.

Didn't do much of anything else today though

I taught kids basic computer architecture using some oldskool systems like slot A, socket A, slot 1, socket 939 and an AGP 775 board. They loved it!

I attempted to record a play-through of one of my own Duke 3D maps but getting Fraps to do anything coherent in Windows 7 is not easy and the recording seems to have randomly cut out at times.

When Fraps fails I just try to get Virtualdub to record the window of whatever i'm playing. Requires preparation though 🙁 still better than Unregistered Hypercam 2

and random emulation-in-emulation screenshot to the thread because why not? At least both show 100% execution 😀

Hmm... Playing Dune on WinUAE, formatting a 4 Gb SD card with Amiga FFS and installing OS 3.1 and several games on it (leaving for another day the opening of my A1200 and swapping the SD card+SD-ATA adapter with the old, original and tired 170 Mb HDD), having thoughts about a CD-ROM for ZX Spectrum...

Oh, and toying around with my Toshiba Equium 7000S desktop. Tiny little powerhouse. I was thinking it would make a good DOS/W95 machine.
Well... It has it's flaws; like ATI Rage Pro video chip and Crystal CS4236B for audio. When I got it, had 2 Mb VRAM, then I found a 4 Mb expansion which was accidentally placed on a Matrox G200 I aquired long time ago.
The Rage Pro chipset does not play nice with some VESA modes, is kind of PITA to get it work ok with Build engine games.

Y2K box: AMD Athlon K75 (second generation slot A)@700, ASUS K7M motherboard, 256 MB SDRAM, ATI Radeon 7500+2xVoodoo2 in SLI, SB Live! 5.1, VIA USB 2.0 PCI card, 40 GB Seagate HDD.

Still commentated by Craig Charles? Wouldn't be the same without him. Who else could do it? Harry Hill? 😉

I installed a Sound Blaster 2.0 in my new 386SX-25 system.

I found this SB 2.0 CT1350B in a huge lot of cards I bought two months ago, it seems to work perfectly fine.

New PC: i9 12900K @5GHz all cores @1.2v. MSI PRO Z690-A. 32GB DDR4 3600 CL14. 3070Ti.
Old PC: Dual Xeon X5690@4.6GHz, EVGA SR-2, 48GB DDR3R@2000MHz, Intel X25-M. GTX 980ti.
Older PC: K6-3+ 400@600MHz, PC-Chips M577, 256MB SDRAM, AWE64, Voodoo Banshee.

They're tuff as nails those things. I found one under of a crush of cards at the scrapping yard once and it had a sticky note on it "NO SOUND".

Jammed it into my 486, and it worked fine!

Yea they are not like AWE64 value cards which I often find dead.

I used a 74LS04 inverter, and built the following "translation":

ISA A0...A2 -> Card A0...A2
ISA A3 -> Invert -> Card A9
ISA A4 -> Invert -> Card A4
ISA A5 -> Invert -> Card A5
ISA A6 -> Invert -> Card A6
ISA A7 -> Invert -> Card A7
ISA A8 -> Card A8
ISA A9 -> Card A3

This card is now working with an IDE->CF adaptor.

Here's the modded ISA IDE card. I desoldered the 74-series chips to "break in" to the address lines and do my translation. I also de-soldered the floppy controller IC since the FDC disable jumper seemed to only work intermittently. Another modification I did was to cut the trace to the "ALE" pin on the card edge, the CF adaptor was sinking it and causing the system not to boot.

akdXxqsh.jpg

Here's the card installed with the IDE->CF adaptor installed. This card is something I found kicking around in a drawer, I have no idea what brand it actually is. The identifier string simply says "Flash Module". *shrug*

6pmi7rah.jpg

BIOSDRVS correctly identifies the card. I can successfully partition and format the card.

RnyGURQh.jpg

My 5150 can now successfully boot from a CF card. Woo!

Can't top that CF mod. Though here's what I did.

Tested TNT2-M64 PCI, SIS-6326agp-PCI-Slot and my second CL-PCI card.
All in working order. Except for the TNT, they all worked even on a 5x86 system.
