I was able to get one of these motherboards but now I'm struggling with the large hard disk support.
As I only have a WD800BB drive available atm, I had to limit drive capacity via jumper but the BIOS only detects a 2GB drive. If I don't put the jumper in place, the machine locks up during POST.

Does anyone know if there is any updated BIOS that can support bigger hard drives?

Well I say google like crazy for a bios , but good luck.

I think your best bet would be a small drive/compact flash card for the os , then when the os is loaded have a drive connected to a newer controller or usb perhaps.

BIOS version 1.00.07.DH0 should take up to 8.4Gb drives. IDK if there was a newer revision or not.

that's the BIOS in use... guess that I'm out of luck.
Probably gonna try other hard drive brand to see if I can get at least 8.4GB

Can't you just input the highest CHS parameters your BIOS can handle manually?

I have the same motherboard but the only IDE drives I had were 320GB Seagates. In my case, the bios detects the drive fine and will max out at 8GB or so for FAT32 (2.1GB FAT). Seagate DiscWizard (V.10.45) will allow me to maximize the disk usage. Maybe, you'll have better luck with a Seagate drive?

I tried using an IDE to CF card and I had zero luck getting it to work. Auto setting in BIOS didn't even see the card and inputting the parameters manually also failed miserably. Certainly, I could be doing something wrong since I'd never tried using an IDE to CF adapter before.

Have one of those motherboards. I like the onboard sound, Yamaha 70x, no need for drivers in DOS mode. I dislike the BIOS, did not detect any HDD over 8 Gb, very fussy with 2-8 Gb ones. Will try to flash the latest BIOS.

You could use Ontrack disk manager, an overlay software that works even on 386.

PCI IDE controller will be better than that lame onboard ide controller, i used one on my packard bell pc that had that 8gb limit for using a 40gb hard drive for windows 95 osr2, i used a Promise Ultra66 PCI

Sorry for necroposting, but in case anyone is interested...

I've just bought TC430HX motherboard. It has last BIOS 1.00.07.DH0.
I connected Samsung SV0602H to it (60GB jumpered to 32GB). Although BIOS (disk is set up as "Auto configured") shows 8 GB - it boots normally, and whole 32GB space is visible under DOS and Windows.

Sorry for necropost, but i just got the same board and my 120GB IDE HDD detects as 8 GB HDD, but works fine with whole space availability. BIOS 1.00.07.DH0. The previous one 1.00.04 handles only 8 GB and i was not able to get whole space without external controller.

So the last BIOS has 128 Gb HDD limit. Good to know.

I must be some kind of standard: the anonymous gangbanger of the 21st century.
