So according to VIA's driver download portal there are DOS drivers for the integrated lan on my DOS computer's motherboard, VIA M1000 (VT 6103 PHY LAN). When I downloaded the driver package I was given three folders, DOSodi, Ndis2, and packet. What of these should I install and how do I go about doing it?

the Ndis2 folder contains the folders
LANSRVR.DOS
LANTASTI
MSLANMAN.DOS
PCNFS
Wfw311
and a rar file called LANSRVR.DOS

What sort of DOS network interface do you want? ODI, packet, NDIS, Netware, IPX, TCP/IP, etc?

The files you need will depend on what interface you are trying to provide. If you pick one and look up the procedure for setting that interface up, at some point in the process it will tell you to get a certain set of files from your card manufacturer, and that's when you'll know which files you need from the VIA package.

sorry about that, I wasn't sure I should put this here since its software help and not hardware.

If you just want to connect the DOS pc to a modern LAN (let's say that of your router) and do some browsing/file transfers, use the packet driver.

As collector says, "DOS" is for DOS games only. Specifically, it's for old DOS games on new operating systems. It's not for DOS software generically. 😀

I recommend the packet driver as well. It allows you to use some valuable tools like Arachne, wget, and the mTCP suite for file transfers. You can use the ODI driver if you feel like putting together a vintage Netware network, and you can use NDIS if you feel like using vintage Microsoft networking software.
