Having a weird issue. I swapped the processor in a machine from a intel dx2 66, to an amd dx4 100. The machine picks up the new processor as a dx2 100 and everything seems to work except for the sound. When testing in Duke Nukem the sound FX start crackling like crazy, and in Doom the entire machine freezes up before you hear the first sound effect. If I pop the dx2 66 back in the sound effects sound perfect.

I've tried 2 different dx4 100's with the same result, and 2 separate awe64's (CT4500 and CT4520).

My question is.. what in the heck would cause something like this, I'm out of ideas on my end. Seems like a really weird issue.

Random update.. still doesn't work with a sound blaster 16, also got a VLB video card that doesnt work if a 100mhz processor is plugged in. So it seems as if something affects the entire isa bus. Still a really weird issue 🤣.

Sounds like a classic IRQ mixup to me. Have you messed with changing available IRQs in your BIOS?

No actually, I can give it a shot. The weird thing to me is why would it only do it with certain processors? If I plug the 66mhz one back in, all is well. Ive tried 2 amd 100mhz ones (both confirmed working in my other boxes) and get the issue.

heh sorry for the double post, I got it!

Stupid jumper setting, internal cache write back to internal write through 😜 now all is working!

Enough to cause weird instabilities I guess.
