I have a VIA Apollo Pro board which is rated for 600/100 but has OC pins which worked up to 1Ghz. I'm currently using a slocket adapter though. Is it he 100Mhz bus variant that you're suggesting is rare? I think that's how I managed to get mine working.

This ASUS P2B-DS on ebay suggests that a 440BX could work with a 1Ghz chip with the right bios?

Don't know about boards such as Intel SE-440BX-2 and Asus P3B's though a board like the Intel-VC820 supports 1+ CPU's.
The problem with a board like the VC820 is that it has 820 chipset and no ISA slot.

A little searching came up with a possible candidate: ABIT BE6-II v2.0

Most 1999 models/revisions of BX boards and all from 2000 should work with a Coppermine 1000(100), the multiplier is locked so thats not an issue.

BX motherboards from 1998 often lacks VRM 8.4 (the VRM spec for Coppermine voltage range support), this can be worked around by using a Socket 370 CPU on a slotket with voltage selection as the VRM 8.3 spec supports 1.8V. With a Slot-1 CPU you need to use a tape mod which is a hassle so I would make sure to get a later BX board with VRM 8.4 support.

I'm not really a fan of RAID for most desktop usage, but in this case it's nice to have because it's ATA66. I'd just use it in single drive mode.

It's a cool board. The BE6-II and BX133 (it's socket-370 equivalent, which seems to be pretty rare) have more tweaking options in the BIOS than I've seen on anything else. However, it's important to note that 440BX ABit boards have bad capacitors (I think universally so). They have to be replaced. Once that's done, they're awesome boards though.
It's sad to think how many of these boards ended up in the trash because of caps, but I think that's what killed most of them off a long time ago. Other than that issue they're probably my favorite 440BX motherboards.

I think all BE6-II boards will support coppermine voltage, but I'm not certain.
Generally speaking an awful lot of slot-1 boards have a VRM that supports Coppermine voltages, but your chances are best if you stick to later boards. The SE440BX is an early 440BX board so it's probably too old for it.

I use mine with an ASUS P2B.

I'm leasurely building a rig around a slot 1 PIII-800 and ASUS P3V4X. P3V4X is surely a nice board, a little moody due to VIA chip set, but overall well-built. Will be a couple % slower than a BX tough.

I had one in a p3b-f, worked wonderfully.

Asus P3B-F has official support for P3 1 GHz from revision 1.04

As mentioned above any BX based motherboard can support a Coppermine as long as it has the updated VRM

I have a Dell branded SE440BX board that shipped with a P3 500 working happily with a P3 1Ghz. I also know Gateways used Intel SE440BX boards round the same time AND as a bonus had the standard ATX pinout, unlike its Dell brother
