At around 10:40 of this id Software 20th Anniversary video, DOOM E1M1 can be heard: https://youtu.be/sh9GAviYRkc?t=10m43s

I am curious as to what General MIDI module/sound card (or soundfont) was used for that playback. I have listened to several recordings of E1M1 on various sound cards and soundfonts, but have not found one that sounds exactly alike.

That playback sample is very short and had to listen several times to get an idea.

I would say it's from a Gravis Ultrasound Classic with the original patch set. The guitar riffs and drums sound extremely close to my GUS ACE from the time I used to play Doom with it; unfortunately I've modified the patch set several times since then.

Ooohh, the pain......

Sounds more like the AWE32 in MS-DOS-6.22 to me. Could be wrong though.
There is some echo of some sort, plus the drums, that reminds me of an AWE32 CT:2760/3900.

Don't eat stuff off a 15 year old never cleaned cpu cooler.
Those cakes make you sick....
