Hey there.
When I was a little kid, around 10, my father gave me my first PC. As far as I can tell, it was 386sx running at 16mhz. There were some games preinstalled (it was used computer) - Suppaplex, Cadaver, Eye of Beholder II. Then I got Prince of Persia, The Lost Vikings, etc.
All these games mean a lot to me, emotionally.
Now, after 25 years, I decided to get myself some classic DOS rig (I don't plan to install Windows at all).
As I am mostly attached to 486 era stuff, 486 it will be (well, and maybe 5x86).
I've already bought a motherboard - it's a ZIDA 4DPS 2.0 (i've got it very cheap with AMD DX4@100mhZ and 32mb of RAM).
I have already bought a CPU as well - an IBM 5x86 running at 100mhZ to replace this AMD stuff.
No, I'm planning to get some graphics card. Could you please give me some advice?
I was planning either to get:
- TSENG ET6000
- TSENG ET4000
- Matrox Mystique
- Some S3?
Considering my preference in older games - do you think this is an overkill? Which video card do you think is the best?
Thanks for all your opinions.
BTW. My first approach was a laptop. I love retro Thinkpads (and use W530 nowadays) and on my local OLX I found a beauty - an IBM 365ED. A very low-end laptop, but built like a tank and GREAT shape really. And there is something very interesting about this particular model - it's the only one that was released with IBM/Cyrix 5x86@100mhZ processor (on Socket 3)!
