Ok well since it's built and I'm going to start benchmarks I figured might as well move discussion into here and let the Marvin thread die. I will have pictures of it as soon as they re-enable attachments 🤣.

I'm happy with them, this is very close to my dream computer of 2006. Only thing I'd change is the board for an M2N32-SLI Deluxe or a Crosshair 1

Test some newer games. 😲

Fear - 1680x1050 8xAA 16xAF Maximum Setting
93FPS

Average? I doubt that. Nvidia optimised or what.

That is what the fear test settings test says, you can argue with it. Also why would I want to run newer games the entire point is to relive what I'd have been playing in 2006.

F.E.A.R. has this soft shadow setting. If enabled it doesn't use AA, even if enabled. So it's one or the other. Soft shadows are very taxing on the GPU. I can't remember what the default setting is, might be worth taking a quick look.

You can still force AA with your graphics software, but the result is (in my experience) not optimal.
And the "soft shadows" are not optimal too. They are relative ugly.

My system (W7) - tried the peformance test with the same settings (the highest option is 4xFSAA) and got FPS all over the place: 96 max, 62 aver/87 max, 58 aver/114 max, 70 aver/ 41 max, 32 aver/82 max, 55 aver etc.

This game can be weird with input devices.

Are you using anything wireless or from Logitech?

Great game! Can't remember if it has built-in benchmarking though...

Try 1280x800 or 1280x768.

The console command r_TexMaxAnisotropy (1-16) adjust the intern anisotropic filtering and r_ssao (0) deactivate SSAO.

oddly getting terrible preformance in XP at the desktop, it runs games fine but it lags terribly at the desktop. It's dual booted with Vista Home Premium x64 and that simply fly's. Not sure whats going on except that maybe XP is running out of ram?
