Hello

I have been using VDMSound for quite some time now, and lately I used it to run the racing game "Car & Driver". Now I wondered how the game would play with a steering wheel, or rather I wondered if VDMSound would manage to get it to work. At first, it seemed to do. I have a Microsoft SideWinder Force Feedback Wheel (Gameport version) and everything works fine except for the following: I cannot use the brake pedal, cannot move the crosshair in calibraion mode below the center horizontal line, although it does react to my steering, and does go up when I use the throttle pedal.

This is because the SideWinder wheel has a configuration which I believe is somewhat uncommon. Only the throttle pedal controls the Y-axis, going from values 0 (not pressed down) to 255 (pressed all the way down). Unlike most other steering wheels, where no pedals pressed means 127 for Y value and both pedals either raising or lowering that, the brake pedal of the SW-FF wheel controls a third Z-axis from 0 to 255. I only recognized this after using a newer racing game where I had to select an option called "HID (Z-axis) for braking" for brakes to work, which seems to be an option added especially for SW-FF wheels.

I had a look at the Joystick mapping files of VDMSound, but as I expected, it doesn't seem to be possible to combine two axis of a host's joystick on only one axis on the emulated joystick (i.e. assigning the Y axis to the positive part of the emulated Y axis, and the Z axis to the negative one). Is there still a technical solution, maybe a third-party tool which could change this already on a Windows-level so VDMS doesn't have to care about it, or still a way to tell VDMS about what I want to do?

Thanks in advance
Daniel

Sorry...

Still bugging me that much and I couldn't find any solutions yet. Does anyone have a suggestion?

Thanks
Daniel
