Got this lovely Tomato 4DPS 2.1 motherboard from ebay, will go really well with the AMD DX/4 100 and Cyrix 5x86 100 CPU's I got recently. Can't wait for it to arrive.

That's a nice late board mate. Titchy little things those baby AT boards considering the integrated controller etc. Less space for cache though unfortunately. Do you know if it can do 50Mhz?

I completely forgot to post that my QDI Platinix 2E/333 motherboard arrived yesterday. Unfortunately due to work schedule I won't be able to fire it up until Tue or Wed. It has, as expected, a 3x2 solder pad labeled "PCPCI" with no header on it. I'll solder a header and test whether it works for DOS sound with a YMF744 card. Chipset i845E, don't think there were any later motherboards with even a hint of PCPCI.

Overview.JPG

Only issue, based on some quick testing I did, is that my only s478 cooler (originally from a HP server) exceeds the size of the retention bracket by a few millimeters. I'll have either to saw off a bit of the cooler's base, or better yet remove the bracket and secure the cooler by alternate means.

I/O, I/O,
It's off to disk I go,
With a bit and a byte
And a read and a write,

Looking at the manual it can do 50 MHz, it lists a setting for the DX 50. Shame it doesn't seem to support UMC U5S 486's though, at least according to the manual.

My Compaq 486 laptop doesn't have any speakers (or a sound card) but I can pair a PCMCIA card with these snazzy PS/2-powered speakers.

Can't wait to hear some of that "INCEDIBLE SOUND!" 😁

They usually handle 50MHz very well, 4DPS and its twin sister, PCI400, were very common around here and overclocking has always been their strong feature.

Picked this little lot up for £free locally a few minutes ago - a freecycle ad that explained nothing about except that it was some random computer parts:

The attachment 20160612_210706-1600x899.jpg is no longer available

Quite a nice selection of stuff including:

- Asus P5LD2 with C2D E6320 (1066 FSB)
- MSI MS-7506 (AM2) with Athlon 64 2000+ (Lima Core)
- More RAM than you can shake a stick at from SDRAM to DDR3 including some matched kits.
- 570W Trust PSU (I'm sure someone will tell me if these are any good)
- PNY GeForce 6600
- Sapphire Radeon HD 2600 Pro
- 2x MSI MS-8936 GeForce4 MX4000
- ATi Rage 128 Ultra

Particularly curious about that last one as it will complement my early AGP SS7 graphics card group test nicely.

Check out my blog and YouTube channel for thoughts, articles, system profiles, and tips.

I don't know you but now I hate you, plain and simple 🤣
And the Sapphire 2600 is AGP! Very nice haul for free.

Well, even HD2600 XT Agp is so slow... HD2600 Pro Agp is even worse. HD3850 Agp/HD4670 Agp have the same fatal flaw (no Win9x drivers) but at least they can run Furry Cube at 60+ FPS. 😀
Still - it's free...

Asus P4P800 SE/Pentium4 3.2E/2 Gb DDR400B,
Radeon HD3850 Agp (Sapphire), Catalyst 14.4 (XpProSp3).
Voodoo2 12 MB SLI, Win2k drivers 1.02.00 (XpProSp3).

It's still not bad, its about as fast as a 6800 NU with alot lower power requirements

Scored another 9800 GX2 for $35 shipped and got stupid lucky (like win the lottery stupid) and found a second rare EVGA GTX 295 Red edition for $80 shipped (ouch first card only cost $53) but it is very cool to own 2 out of 500 ever made. 😎 Less than 100 to 200 are likely to still be in existence, besides the red paint everything is cherry picked including the vrms as these cards were specially made. Two of these at 835mhz on water held a 6 week world record in 3Dmark back in 2009. 😲

On a far away planet reading your posts in the year 10,191.
