So I am wondering about this.

On older cards and older drivers, you can set AA for OpenGL and the options go up to 2x2. Like on a GeForce2 for example.

Now on a GeForce3 Ti, I have to use a newer driver and here the AA option is different. It now has it's own tab and the options include 2x and 4x.

Now is the old 2x2 setting the same as the new 4x or is 2x the equivalent?

It's just that the GF3 is much, much better at AA, but I have a feeling that 2x option is not the correct one to compare it.

Yeah, 4x is the equivalent. As I understand this, 2x2 is a brute supersampling mode, whereas GeForce3 and up "cheat" when they do multisampling. Multisampling AA modes are combinations of techniques to get around true supersampling and get comparable quality.

Ah I see.

I decided to just use a newer driver that supports all the cards and gives me the same options 😀

There is indeed a massive boost in AA performance with GF3 and higher, just like you say.
