I soldered everything now together.
But unfortunaly i only have partially defective SID's 😳
I get just some Popping noises when playing a SID file.
The SID also runs pretty hot.
My other one does nothing.

Have to wait again 😳

@matze79 It is very very easy to break SID. It is one of those old chips that die from static or a even a bad contact. I killed one by temporarily disconnecting filter capacitor(on a working card). I believe, it is better to test these boards with something like swinSID, then insert a real one. Won't cover all possible mistakes, but better than nothing.
Always store SIDs in metal foil or conductive bags. Always discharge static electricity from your body by touching metal grounded things. Never try powering SID in a partially-assembled circuit. Avoid needlessly touching the board and Ext In while it is working. It is even better to not change any connections while the board is powered.

Exactly. SIDs are very sensitive.
I've killed one 8580 myself just by touching the board with soldering iron (was replacing one capacitor). Another died while shipping because of bad packaging (SID was wrapped in non-antistatic plastic bag).

matze79 It's a pity that you can not get the working board right now... But yeah, those SIDs...
SID must be handled with extreme care and inserted as the last part into the board.
Do you have any ideas: were your SIDs working before?

I tested the SIDs in C64, both are defective..
i will have soon a cheapo SwinSID avaible and i'm hope i can source the SwinSID Ultimate 😀.
Unfortunaly i have to wait to buy another SID 😀

Why are sids so fragile?

They are HMOS and CMOS Technologie which are sensitive to Static Electricity.

If you walk over a carpet and touch it, it's like a lightening strike on a tree 😳 (bit extreme example)

Does the Gameport of the SSI make use of the Paddles ?

I made today 10 SwinSID Nano, but 2 are not working for some Reason maybe they can't keep up with the 32Mhz.

It is, the U6 music was composed for Adlib, which has 9 channels or 6 channels with 5 percussion instruments. A SID only has 3 (official) channels, and the music was not really redone, so it will sound like something is missing.

The SwinSID Nano does a really good job with the sample music! I think you would really need a well-trained ear to tell the difference between it and the real thing. I don't think U6 uses filters.

Other than the missing notes it sounds really good, so if that's expected then great!

I have made up a couple of nano-swinsids for my c64's, there are quite a few problems with the firmware. Popping noises, clicking, volume levels staying low
at times, and so on. There is an updated "Lazy fix" firmware that solves some issues, but the author "codekiller" will not release his nearly perfect FW due to
copycats profiting from his labour. I don't blame him, but as the latest hardware design is not compatible with the older swinsids, and he isn't going to make
the older ones anymore, he could have released something for the community, but that's the way it is for now anyway.

It sounds much weirder with px player playing midi.
I will do some recordings today 😀

It does Sound also pretty in Battle Chess 2 and Red Storm Risingl.
I can't find a working version of bad blood to test it 😒

Trying to get my Hands on a Ultimate SwinSID.

i tested almost all SSI-2001 Games and they are all working fine with the SwinSID..
It seems SSI-2001 Games don't make much use of Filters. (The Weakpoint of the SwinSID)

I now have a 6581 MOS in working condition.
Works well too.

Voltage selection is separate, so it will accept different SIDs. You can set them to the same address and configure as stereo to get pseudo stereo effect.

Personally, I would much prefer RCA, where I can use a simple Y-cable to hook-up L/R channels and keep them separate. And it would also give the card a classier audiophile look. Especially as this card is being upgraded, it doesn't have to follow its predecessors constraints.
