I need help with this board. Most caps are missing. I got it like this and also don't know if it worked but would like to try.

Can someone who has this board check what capacitors are missing?

Thanks

It's a safe bet those are 1500uf 6.3v capacitors. Most socket 370 boards use either 1000 or 1500uf caps at 6.3v - some OEM boards use 2200uf, but I've only seen those in HP machines.

Looking at pictures of the board, I'd say it's a safe bet the original caps were these things:

The attachment Motherboard-font-b-capacitors-b-font-font-b-6-3v-b-font-font-b-1500uf-b.jpg is no longer available
The attachment AX34U-b.jpg is no longer available

Same size, same color (green / silver), and judging by most other socket 370 boards I've seen, I'm 90% sure the capacitance is 1500uf and voltage is 6.3v

=====

Another argument would be - judging by the picture you posted and pcitures I found on google, the two larger caps at the top (above the CPU socket) are identical (size and color) to the missing ones. See what value / voltage those have.

Get some 1500uf 6.3v caps, solder them on and see if she posts.

This might be a way to go. Although I was hoping someone has the same board 😉

Last year I got one of these boards, took a picture, removed all the bad caps and stored them in a baggy so I could replace them when I finally had time (and the caps). I actually FOUND the old caps today, and made up a basic schematic to show what went where.

The attachment ax34u_badcaps2.jpg is no longer available

I would replace ALL of these caps, especially if yours are Lelon brand, like mine were. The three large 2200uf caps at the top were KZE (same color scheme but different brand) and were totally flat and showed no signs of failure. I'm no expert on these things, but I'd say if you have replacements for them that are of good quality you could replace them, but I plan to leave them unless I have problems later.

The two 8x18mm caps right near the ATX socket were strangely the same rating as the other 10x20mm caps, 1500uf 6.3v. Even stranger, their locations on the board also have holes for larger diameter caps. I will probably just replace these with the same 10x20mm caps I plan to use in the other locations. I checked with my DMM and there is continuity between both of the solder pads for these caps, so either size should work.

I think these boards are worth saving though. They have Via Apollo Pro133T chipsets, Tualatin support, 4x AGP, ATA 100 and an ISA slot. A nice combination! I haven't actually used mine yet (need to replace the caps) so hopefully the BIOS is set up as well as other Pro133T boards from more well known brands.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, the old pictures I took of the board before removing the caps show all of the caps oriented properly, with the "-" stripe over the white shaded portion on the board.

Now for some blitting from the back buffer.
