Is there any possible way to get 16-bit DOS support from a YMF719 when WSS isn't available? I just threw this card in my machine to run it through the gauntlet of games, and I fell short on NBA Live 95.

Installer options are -
Sound Blaster
Sound Blaster Pro (Testing plays 8-bit 16 kHz)
Sound Blaster 16 (Testing played 16-bit 22 kHz before I pulled my SB16)
Gravis Ultrasound

All detection is done via the set blaster string (or set "ultrasnd" or whatever the Gravis one is).

Just wondering if I have any options here.

If the games uses miles sound drivers: Rename SB16.DIG to SB16.OLD. Find SNDSYS.DIG from elsewhere and rename it SB16.DIG. Your milage may vary.

--> ISA Soundcard Overview // Doom MBF 2.04 // SetMul

Whats the point?
Just use WSS with Miles Drivers if the card supports it.

As far as I know, SB has completely different set of commands than WSS, the two are not interchangeable.

It seems like that is the only option available. Unless they have an odd rename of the drivers, I think whatever sound logic EA used must have been incorporated into their exe.

There is an extremely noticeable difference between the quality of sound of 8-bit 16 kHz and 16-bit 22 kHz. It is possible that some people wouldn't think much about it if only hearing the 8-bit option, but the 16-bit option is highly superior in quality. Being limited to 8-bit 16 kHz is a regrettable loss of sound quality.
