I'm not sure a straight popular vote is what we need either. Why not a parliamentary system, so we don't have this absurd 2 party winner-take-all nonsense every 4 years, or if that isn't a viable/good option (maybe someone from UK can chime in how they feel about their system) then why not take the 3rd party candidate with the most votes and they become part of the winners cabinet? At least that way the 3rd parties end up performing some useful function rather than just being bomb-throwers or siphoning votes away from one or the other major parties. Anything to get some difference of opinion and not just the liberal/conservative echo chamber we have now.
