Can these exist together in the same system? Apache and fighting falcon got a patch for voodoo 2 but not voodoo 3 so I need to have a voodoo or voodoo 2 in the pc. There might be other games too that aren't compatible with voodoo 3. Otherwise I have a Rage 128 Xpert, a Diamond V550 or a TNT2 Vanta I could use. I am planning on getting another voodoo 2 for sli but am wondering if I should go for the voodoo 3000 instead?

Generally speaking I believe the consensus is that a Voodoo 3 2000 is about the equivilent to 2x Voodoo 2's in SLI. I am pretty sure you can indeed run a Voodoo3 and a pair of Voodoo2s at the same time however I don't see much point in it.

Well the voodoo 3 3000 I believe is the fastest card I can get for my AGP 2X slot. And I would be using the Voodoo 2's for the backwards compatibility. I just don't know how to tell the older games to use the voodoo 2's instead of the voodoo 3.

If your goal is "backwards compatibility" then put a voodoo1 beside the voodoo3.
That's what I did and it works VERY good.

So the games" know" which card to use? The games I am talking about above don't have a menu to choose the display adapter.

No Problem. Play all Games if possible with the V3.
Games that require V1 (Dosglide) work, if you put the v1-relevant files in the game-directory.

I do not install any v1-driver in windows. I only install the dx6.1 drivers for the v3.

Put the correct GLide version (glide2x.ovl or glide2x.dll) in the game's directory.

Indeed, because you aren't using Voodoo1 for Direct3D games --only GLide games.

Never thought this thread would be that long, but now, for something different.....

Same here. V3 + V1 = 100% compatibility.

It works really well.

OK I put the Voodoo 1 card I had in a vacant slot and got nothing on device manager. I assume the card is bad? I got it off ebay and this is the first time I used it. I have a FX 5200 I didn't know I had and I put that in the AGP slot and it seems to be working. I imagine that is much faster than the voodoo 3. On passmark it is roughly 40% faster than a Gefore 4 ti 440. I don't imagine I can put a much faster card in a AGP 2X slot.

But how do you shut up windows trying to install a driver every time you reboot? And do you need to connect the loop back connector from the Voodoo 1 to the AGP card? I have a 5200, Voodoo 2 (soon to be sli) and now a Voodoo in adjacent slots. 🤣

I wouldn't run a V1 and a V2 at the same time. That seems like it would be problematic.

V1 cards connect the same way that V2 cards do. Primary graphics output goes into the V1, then you connect your monitor to the V1.
