Command & Conquer Windows 95 DosBox Instructions

1. Install C&C Windows 95
2. Install C&C Covert Operations

3. Copy GAME directory from Covert Ops CD to C&C directory, overwrite the files since they have Covert Ops specific information.

4. Once you copy the Covert Ops files over you now have a DOS C&C executable! C&C.EXE

5. Edit Dosbox.conf, change core= to core=dynamic.

6. If you wish to play without the CD simply copy all .MIX files from the root of the Covert Ops CD to a directory called CD under the C&C directory. Now execute Command & Conquer with the command: C&C -cdCD

7. Only downside to use Command & Conquer Windows 95 with Covert Ops files is that there is no sound config utility. To get sound make sure your CONQUER.INI has these lines:

[Sound]
Name=89
Card=e017
Port=220
IRQ=7
DMA=5
BitsPerSample=16
Channels=0
Reverse=0
Speed=1

6. Bind game.dat with DOS32A, otherwise game will crash.

8. Play the game!

7. The directory and filename C&C require quotations if you wish to use them under hosts Windows. I recommend just removing the &.

Command and Conquer Red Alert under DosBox

1. Edit Dosbox.conf. Change core=normal to core=full.
Using Normal or Dynamic setup will crash.

2. Once installed, Bind DOS32A with game.dat in Red Alert directory.
If you do not do this then when you execute the game with DYNAMIC core then the game will crash with a page fault. You can execute the game with FULL core but it will be very slow.
BE SURE TO KEEP A BACKUP OF GAME.DAT! Preferably name the old Game.dat gameold.dat.

3. Edit dosbox.conf. Change core=full to core=dynamic
You must do this to play at full speed.

4. Execute Red Alert.
Game may stay at a black screen for awhile, increase your cycles
On my Athlon XP 2800 at 60,000 cycles it only took 10 seconds for the C&C menu to come up.

Command and Conquer Red Alert Counterstrike

1. Edit DosBox.conf. Change core=dynamic to core=full
Using Normal or Dynamic setup will crash.

2. If you bound Red Alert's game.dat with DOS32A then delete the DOS32A game.dat and rename gameold.dat to game.dat. If you don't do this then setup will not be able to continue.

3. Start Counterstrike setup.

4. When setup is done bind Game.dat with DOS32A if you are NOT going to install any more expansion packs.
If you do bind game.dat with DOS32A and intend to install more expansion packs then you'll have to do step #2 again.

5. Edit dosbox.conf. Change core=full to core=dynamic.
You must do this to play at full speed.

6. When executing the game it will complain about not enough memory if your dosbox.conf memsize= is set to 16. Set memsize=32.

7. Execute Red Alert!

Command and Conquer Red Alert Aftermath

1. Edit dosbox.conf. Change core=dynamic to core=full
Using normal or dyanmic setup will crash.

2. If you bound Red Alert's game.dat with DOS32a then delete the DOS32a game.dat and rename gameold.dat to game.dat. If you don't do this then setup will not be able to continue.

3. Start Aftermath setup.

4. When setup is done bind game.dat with DOS32A.

5. Edit dosbox.conf. Change core=full to core=dynamic.
You must do this to play at full speed.

6. When executing the game it will complain about not enough memory if your dosbox.conf memsize= is set to 16. Set memsize=32.

7. Execute Red Alert!

To Run Red Alert Without the CD

You can run Red Alert without the CD using the RA -CD command BUT Setup.exe also requires the CD and can not be configured with this command. Therefore under DosBox it simply makes more sense to copy the files/directories off the CD that both RA.EXE and SETUP.EXE use and mount that directory under DosBox as a CD.

1. Create a CD directory under your RedAlert Directory
2. Copy SETUP\Setup.mix from Aftermath CD to RedAlert SETUP Directory.
3. Copy Main.mix file from root of Aftermath CD to the CD directory.
4. Mount the CD as mount d C:\Westwood\RedAlert\CD -label CD4 -t cdrom
The LABEL is REQUIRED!

I couldn't get either modem support or IPX support working. Using either one DosBox would crash.
