Odd EMS/XMS memory error

hi, i've searched the forums and i can't seem to find any topics relating to this so here goes...

I've installed and set up Star Trek Judgement Rites/25 Anniversary to run using VDMS but when i try to run them, they both say i am lacking sufficient EMS memory. Does anyone know why? I've set both to the max of EMS/XMS memory allowed which is 16MB

Thanks
Jason

The problem with unavailable EMS on some computers was discussed here at least thousand times...
Some device is occupying the required memory range (try switching off in Bios to found the culprit). SEARCH for more details.

Hi! I have this problem too (Impulse tracker -> No 58k of mem free and 0k of EMS free 😒)
I apologize but I don't know what to search... What should I do in Bios?
I've searched for a solution for weeks :'(
Please help!

Some bios features may be occupying the physical address in memory for the EMS page frame. Get into bios and try disabling everything you don't need like SATA controllers, USB, etc...

😒
I've already disabled integrated sound. I'm currently using USB and ethernet things... Argh, lemme check again...

Disabling SATA and USB keyboard support doesn't solve the problem :'(

Then it seems you are out of luck. That method doesn't work for all mainboards. You should get in contact with manufacturer and maybe ask for a bios release that will address this problem.

Do you *really* need your Ethernet network controller to be enabled when you play the game?? If not, then disable it when you want to play.

Ok, I'll have a try... Impulse tracker is not a game 😉
It's a quite good tracker 😁

Ok, I do have EMS memory by disabling ethernet controller 😀
Unfortunnately, i don't have RAM eough this time 😒
Impulse Tracker says : FreeMem : 58ko
FreeEMS : 16635ko
How can I solve that ? 😒

Re: VDMSound and editing CONFIG.NT

As far as I know, if you use the VDMSound LaunchPad, it will create & use a temporary CONFIG (and AUTOEXEC ?) based on the LaunchPad/game settings, so you can avoid any manual editing.

Hi, I'm a new at this and I want to play an FPS called Wrath of Earth. No, this is not game specific, this happens with a lot of games. I get the "Insufficent Memory or EMS Installed" I need help and this topic isn't really helping me because you tell me what I have to do but I don't know how to do it. I'm not real good with Dosbox so I would appreciate some help. Another thing I need to know is how to increase memory because some games are very memory-absorbing.

Joey - go the Wiki listed in my signature. Look for a section on DOSBox front-ends. Find one you like and one that will allow you to change how DOSBox handles EMS memory. Experiment with it.

Thanks, I got the game working but it's incrediblt slow. I'm using D-Fend v2 and I really don't know the best way to make the game faster. Increasing frame-skip isn't really increasing FPS, is it? Because it's not working for me. What can I do ot increase speed? Please help. Thanks.

Increase cycles. I'm sure the Wiki talks about that too.

I keep press ctrl+f12 but the only thing happening is that it gets laggier and laggier. I don't know what to do to make the emulation faster. I'm trying to get the frame rate up.
