Wondering if anyone knew of a Soundblaster / Creative timeline of their soundcard releases? A chart listing them or something?

EDIT - found this - http://www.soundblaster.com/about/ - Close as I can get.

Also, wanted to see what people thought about what the ideal card would be for each of the following setups. I have also listed the card I am planning on using right now for the first three, as I havent decided on the last two before I purchase the cards.

Pentium 1 - 133 - S3 Virge - Soundblaster 32

Pentium II - 233 - Voodoo1 / Riva 128 - Soundblaster AWE64

Pentium II - 450 - Voodoo2 SLI / Riva TNT - Soundblaster AWE64

Athlon 650 - Voodoo3 or TNT2 - ?? -

Pentium III 933 - GeForce 2 GTS - ?? - Have ISA / PCI available

Picking soundcards by period-correctness seems to be an unusual approach. Are you sure you don't want to pick cards with different capabilities? Currently all of your cards are more or less the same: they don't have proper OPL3, don't produce General MIDI under pure DOS (unless the game specifically supports AWE32 class cards), don't have Waveblaster headers and require pretty expensive addons for additional RAM (and soundfonts).

Also, unless you're dead set on using Soundblasters in your rigs, you might want to take a look at Yamaha or ESS. Might be useful if you want to experiment with MIDI addons later on.

Finally, starting with your PII-rig you might want to take a look at PCI cards since you don't really need DOS compatibility there.

Just my two cents here 😀

Period "correct" isnt a definite, but I dont want to put anything in the builds that would be newer than the Proc / Graphics cards that are in them....just my thing...

The Athlon and PIII I was leaning towards SB Live! setups, but not sure..

The AWE64's I have chosen based on some reviews and build videos I have watched and what I currently have and the PII 233 will be used for some later DOS games as well...

But for the PII 450 / Athlon and PIII I am open to opinions as I plan on picking up what I need for them...right now the PII 450 is the only one I dont have a choice for yet. I know the community here has a really good knowledge of the various sound cards, so getting opinions and such is very helpful
