Most of my hardware collection contains certain brands. I really don't want other brands in most cases.
Ofcourse everyone's experience with a brand is different and i will never call one better than the other because a lot of brands had some good ones and some bad models maybe too. It's just a preference i have and it also keeps me ''contained'' a bit so i can not keep everything that comes along 🤣
So i wonder: do any of you follow the same policy?
I have mostly Asus motherboards, Creative soundcards and 3dfx and Nvidia graphics cards. Nvidia cards i prefer Asus again.
I made a few exceptions but mostly i ignore other brands. For example ATi: I have the most high end HD3850 agp but i don't care about X850XT PE which i can buy for a good price. 6800 cards i have and would buy an extra without thinking about it. I know the 9700/9800 is a better card (and can be had by Asus) but i only have the fx5800 and fx5950u. Lots of good deals on the Radeon's i ignored.
I do use R9 290 in my daily but for my retro's i prefer Nvidia.
Same goes for Creative. Maybe not the very best but for me they always just work. Maybe it is also because they were best advertised/displayed here in the 90's but they get my vote.
I do not buy any other brand soundcard and cards like crystal etc. i have always tossed out. They probably work just as good.
Asus motherboards have always worked fine for me and i favor them. So i love to use my P3B-F or P5A boards but leave a maybe even better one Like Abit BE6, or gigabyte GA-5AX, i do not own these or look for them.
Made an exeption for the Aopen AX59PRO as i wanted a good mvp3 board. And i can not find a 486 pci from Asus so it became an Acer.
So, i'm curious what ''rules'' you guys (with big collections) maintain to keep this hobby from exploding, or if there are preferences for certain brands.
This is not about which brand is better, they all suck and cost money.
