Where would I find the patches for this so-called "modified 98"? It sounds intriguing to me.

greetings from argentina! i want to thank you for taking the time to write this guide. i have 2 questions: will any 945p motherboard work with the modified drivers? this is my current list of boards with the chipset and core 2 support:
ASUS P5LD2 (rev 2.0 o more)
ASUS P5LD2-SE (rev 2.0 o more)
GIGABYTE GA-945P-S3 (preference rev 3.3)
GIGABYTE GA-945P-DS3 (preference rev 3.3)
ECS 945PT-A2/1333 (this one officially supports a core 2 quad Q6700 and duo e8600)
ECS 945P-A (V3.0)
also today i managed to get a NEW pcie xfx geforce 6800gs xxx edition, will it work with the modified 81.98?
.
thanks for the quick reply. my goal is to use 3 systems on this machine, w98, xp and 7, thats why i needed core 2 duo support (that and the low consumption), about the id, its the same if i get it on w7?
.
looks like some small component like an smd got knocked off the board, can be fixed?
.
.
awesome, i tested the 6800gs on a spare machine but forgot to write down the hardware id, thanks!

Charging for that is ludicrous and laughable... at least $20 per patch is retarded too. Yep. I might end up getting the greater than 512MB patch too just because it would enable me to use some better ram for this project and overclock it further.
I completely agree with you. It's ransome for that price and completely ridicious, and also the reason why I refuse to buy any patches even though I could use them.

Afaik, using 1GB can be done without the patch you need to buy, it's when you want to use 2GB or above the problems really start. Just edit some files (lots of info on the web) and you should be good to go with 1GB. I have 1GB in my 440BX system with Win98 and it works fine.
Regarding the X6800, I have the same issue on my Asrock 775Dual VSTA. Can't increase it higher than 11.
i know no motherboard with the 945p and wolfdale support, only the ECS 945PT-A2/1333 but good luck finding it 😒, check the cpu support theres a c2d 8600 on the list http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWebSite/Product/Prod … nuID=16&LanID=0
on the topic about 945 i found 2 motherboards on a website: Asus P5ld2-x and P5ld2-SE, which one would be the best? i know the -x has core 2 duo support but the SE only on rev 2.xx boards, aside from that and the memory banks (2 on x, 4 on SE) they look pretty the same
.
maybe its limited by the phases/consumption (up to 95w)? have you tried a high fsb and low multiplier oc?
.
bought a p5ld2-se rev2.04, its almost exactly to the non-se minus the sound codec*, lan chip and 2 usb less.
*i might have to buy a sound blaster live! because theres no drivers for the ADI1986A for windows 98

I have an old GIGABYTE GA-945P-DS3 rev 2.0 and i can comfirm it supports Core 2, but only the 65 nm models, no Core 2 Quad support. I got mine from a trash picked PC with an E6400 on it
