Yeah half of this stuff is listed by dedicated recyclers who see something they would have otherwise scrapped for 50 cents worth of metals, list it for top dollar for a month or two to see if it sells, and then scraps it anyways if it doesn't. Idk, it would seem to me to be more profitable to just lower the price to the bare minnimum to make say 20 percent profit after shipping + fees. 20 percent is a reasonable gain, 200 percent is scalping. End of story.
There are also the asshats who buy up all cheap stock of an item, and then list them all at the same high price to quickly artifically inflate the price. An example of this would be someone buying all the copys of a vintage game, and then immidiatly relisting them at 3x the original price. Now everyone else who lists there is going to see there price and think thats what its worth which leads to them listing at the same price. Blam! Artificial price inflation.
Then again there are also complete idiots on eBay who list AGP cards (Expensive) at the price of the PCIe version of it (Cheaper) because they are incapable of telling the difference between the different slot types. So we can't really say the price gouging effect of eBay doesn't also work in reverse on occasion?
The main reason nobody can get a good deal on eBay is people that get notifications everytime something along a certain line of search is listed and eBay bots that are set to buy up items with a specific (usually extremely) low price point that match certain very strict keywords (E.G. a bot that buys everything titled "Rage Fury Maxx" thats listed under 10 dollars). eBay in my opinion has gone down hill as a place to win auctions since the smartphone became common. Now instead of having to be offwork, and at a PC to bid, you can just take out your phone and place your bid from anywhere in the world. Have a high latency connection? Forget about winning. This sucks for me in particular because I live in a rural area in a county that claims all electronic scrap (so i cant buy from our recycling centers because "All Electronics are Property of the County" and I can never find local deals so Im forced to use eBay (or Amibay or VCFED which are quickly becoming as bad as eBay, except atleast usually people know what the hell there even talking about) if i want something for a build,
