So I have an iMac G3 (Summer 2000 DV+ Sage) that I got for free from a neighbor years ago! Yeah, that's something everybody here wishes would happen on a daily basis.
Anyways, for the longest time it ran Mac OS9, which in my opinion is a great operating system. Then again, I am a windows person, and that's my only Macintosh, so 😜
I wanted to get it up to OS/X, so I grabbed OS/X 10.3, which was the only version I have, and threw it on there. The first attempt, months ago required a precarious DVD drive repair (I am not entirely sure how I fixed it, but whatever) and the lead to kernel panics and other issues (Yes the firmware is recent). So I let the machine sit there for a while, until tonight, I am really board, I turned the machine on, loaded the installer, and it ran all the way through.
Holy crap! Yay it works, so now what?
If you don't feel like running to get the specs, here they are
450Mhz PPC G3
1GB of SDRAM
Airport card (Not in use, WEP only, I'm not stupid, unless you can correct me)
ATI Rage pro 128 8MB
120GB PATA HDD
1280x1024 (Only in OS/9 I think) CRT display, however it could just be 1024x768, I am not sure. gotta check on that.
Now this machine is almost on par with my Pentium 3 box. However my P3 machine has less memory, a 64mb GeForce2MX, 40GB HDD, 450Mhz Slot1 P3, etc. In terms of gaming performance it's a no shit that the P3 will thrash the Macintosh, as that Mac isn't really meant for gaming (It would appease the casual gamer of the time) but I threw Quake 2 on there and it ran fine at 800x600 (1024x786 demanded more VRAM)
So, what do I do with it? What games do I throw on there? My only other experience with OS/X was brief and without much use, so I dunno what runs well.
Also what browser should I use? I don't intend to use anything internet on it, but if I must, what is the best option?
