I have an IBM PS/2 Model 30 286 that I just got from a huge vintage computer haul which I only paid $50 in total. The original floppy drive was long gone so I had to look for a replacement.
On eBay, I happened to find this floppy drive, which is a Mitsubishi MF356F-822MB 2.88MB PS/2 Floppy Drive. Unfortunately, I was too late to realize that this looks like a standard floppy drive from the back as opposed to a proprietary PS/2 disk drive before I made my bid. As I know, the original floppy drive is powered only by the data cable and that plugging in a standard disk drive would actually destroy the drive itself.
What I'm worried about is actually plugging the Mitsubishi PS/2 drive in my Model 30 and having it blow up right off the bat. I mean while it is an IBM PS/2 floppy drive, I'm not even sure if this has the same functionality as the older drives or just behaves as a standard drive would. If anybody has any input on this, please let me know. Because I would REALLY like to get this machine back up and running.
