Man I share your pain.
This is the reason I don't like the Live! and hardly ever use it. I have that same exact card and in two recent projects it totally failed and I went with other cards 😀
I do know though that a lot of people like the Live and it works great for them, but I prefer a simple installer that just works.
Best is to buy these cards when they come with a CD, then all should be good. Or just use other cards, and there are lots of options.
I have never had a Soundblaster Live cause me anything but pain, grief, aggravation and gas. Audigy2, no problem, but anything SB Live? Pure pain. PCI512, same story.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Creative-Labs-SB0350- … 2YAAOSwax5YyJ5m - Maybe this. More with the skookum, less with the maddening. Unless you need a gameport, in which case see if you can find an Ensoniq AudioPCI or Sound Blaster PCI128. Or, if you have an ISA slot, an ESS Audiodrive or Soundblaster AWE64.

Alas, I'm down to emulation.

ccftp.creative.com/manualdn/Drivers/Others/414/SBL51_W9xME.exe Drivers for SB Live 5.1 cards for W9x series of OS. Creative does in fact host these standalone drivers on their page still, but it takes a while to find them.
EDIT: Tried to make the link clickable via the URL tags, but it didn't seem to work for some reason.
weird, I have used various Live! cards on 440BX/845 mobos and never had an issue...
I seem to remember (but don't quote me on that) that they tend to hog/stress the PCI bus so back then mobo manufacturers actually made their hardware compatible to the Live! cards - rather than the normal opposite. Bad design? PCI issues ? maybe both.
What chipset does your motherboard have kithylin ?

There have been threads about the CT4870 before. It's an OEM model, and will probably not make your life easier.

Your SB0100 card might require an OEM driver.
All hail the Great Capacitor Brand Finder

Maybe... I dunno. I have one card that works now, so I guess I'll consider this one resolved. I could post my image to dropbox that works with the 4870 if anyone wants.. compare it to some of those on vogons, maybe it's already posted.
On to a new thread to figure out OpenGL Issues. So thank you for your input everyone.. kinda solved it on my own though.
i often use the lvie cards and never had any problem ?
download the drivers from the creative site (look under legacy etc.)

Yes.. but have you actually used them in Windows 98 SE, or in Windows ME before? That is where all the problems and grief happens. They're fine and stable in XP And newer.
Since the 64 bit disaster where they offered unstable drivers for several years I always go with the kx drivers for the Live! series. These work flawless even with Win10 x64.

Yes they are WDM, see also here: http://kxproject.com/ (and the FAQ there)
EAX support is provided via DSP plugins. However I have never tested this in detail.
