Please take a photo of the clock gen to the right. Some motherboards don't have a pll and require a different crystal to change clocks.

This is not a 32bit mainboard -> no possibility to upgrade it with a DX.

Hal, do you know any other info on this board? Like what kind of cache ram I am assuming goes in those two 28 pin sockets? I vaugly remember another post here on the forum where someone put the wrong cache in and it smoked and blew up.

gdjacobs, here is the pic of the generator I think you wanted. The fact that it is 40MHz pretty much gives it away that we are stuck at 20MHz I assume?

This is a really awesome setup. You have a removable 386SX CPU and cache. I've never seen them together like that. Please show more photos. Can the motherboard be adapted for other cases?

Crystals can be replaced, so theoretically 25mhz is possible on this CPU assuming the ISA bus doesn't clock synchronously and explode.

I took a few photos with my better camera of the board. I don't know if this loosely follows the LPX standard or not, but that 4 ISA riser card might be a bear to move into a different case.

You are right. The board has 16KB cache. I guess the two empty sockets are for another two 8K x 8bit SRAM chips.

I don't know much about cache, but would this be the chips I need to upgrade the cache?

You know, you can buy TI 486SXLC-40 and 486SXLC2-50 CPUs that will fit into your CPU socket.

Make sure you don't buy the V or G series though. You need to verify it's a 5V model.

Usually -040 indicates a 5V 40MHz model, -G40 would be 3.3V core with 5V I/O at 40MHz, and -V40 would be pure 3.3V 40MHz.

A.C., thanks for the heads up with the cpu upgrade option. I will keep that in mind.

Any other thoughts on the cache upgrade from the previously posted ebay link? I just am paranoid that I will let the magic smoke out if I get the wrong thing.

Thanks so much for pointing me to the proper cache chips to order. Got them on the way, however after reading a snapshot of this motherboard from the wayback machine it is saying I need a CACHE32.COM file to be able to enable the extra cache. Any ideas where I might find this file?
