So, I've been planning to solder a new 3.6V NiCd battery onto this motherboard, but there is one thing I got to figure out first.

I want to solder the battery using the leftmost and rightmost holes, marked - and +, but what is the middle hole for? And is there any kind of component missing there?

The attachment IMG_2027.JPG is no longer available

Basically, what are the things I've marked with a red ring used for?

Holes for different size battery?
If you have a multimeter you can measure if the large middle pin connects to other battery pins (my guess is midle pin is same as the plus pin).
There are also two small pins, again, most likely battery - and + pins.

Yeah I too think it's just alternative mounting holes for smaller batteries.
One think to pay attention is the green acid work you have going on there, neutralize it before any fixes because that &*!^#(^!@) will continue it's destructive work even if it seems it's stationary.
