So I'm putting the final touches on my time machine. it consists of a brand new case. Full ATX but compact. A Full size but shallow depth power supply so I could fit the 5 1/4 inch floppy I bought for it in there. a K6-3+ with an Asus P5a amoung other googies. I will most more details in system specs when it's done.

Problem I am running into is the 5 1/4 drive screw holes don't line up. Which is weird because I didn't think they ever changed that. Of course I am likely wrong on that point. I specifically spent way too much money on a drive that was already black in color to match. Also the Bezel is too wide to fit properly without being recessed. Anyone have similar issues? I feel I probably have no choice but the shave off the sides of the bezel and drill new holes to mount it. Unless anyone else has any ideas?

Floppy drives are generally either 3½ or 5¼. I assume you mean the latter.

Sometimes it's pretty easy to pry off the exterior plastic parts and swap them with the plastic parts of another drive, though I can understand you might be reluctant to try that if you spent a lot of money on the drive. (On the other hand, you can also try taking the plastic parts off some other drive and paint them black yourself.)

Yeah sorry I did mean 5 1/4. Had an moment there. Correcting.

@Jorpho

I've never had very good luck with painting especially plastic. It always ends up looking like my 3 year old daughter got a hold of the paint. Thinking of getting a Dremel and sanding off the edges of he bezel but worried it might be beige underneath the black or something.
