Hey guys, I have a GA-586DX dual socket 7, I have the latest bios installed. I have been having nothing but problems with this board, I can not get anything over 8gb to be detected in the bios, I have no idea why a board this new has such a limitation. I was wondering what I could do? can anyone create a custom bios to allow for larger HD support? I have attached the bios from Gigabytes website. I have been trying to use the SCSI 2 port but I don't know if I am doing something wrong. I can see the hard drive in the Adaptec bios, I tried both win 2K and XP, I can finish the part where all the files are copied but when the PC restarts it says disk read error and then I can not finish the installation. I'm not very experienced with SCSI setup.

Hello, what options do you have in your bios regarding the hard drives? Do you have an option to change the drive type?

Hi Turboman,

I owned a Ga-586DX board years ago.
I remember I had the same issue, I asked Jan Steunebrink to help with the bios ( http://web.inter.nl.net/hcc/J.Steunebrink/k6plus.htm ).
But it seems that the board is simply not capable to handle nothing more than 8gb hard disk.

The best option is to install a Promise ATA100 PCI card.
