Well, in preparation for the upcoming movie, I felt the urge to play this classic game. Using VDMSound version 2.0.4, I can get it to load up and run just fine. If I just have the sound effects enabled then I get the voices, sound effects, and everything runs fine. But if I enable music, seemingly no matter how I configure it, then I run into problems. The game still loads fine, and the music and sound effects work okay, but the voices are broken up, sometimes jerky. I couldn't find anyone other posts with this problem so I don't think its very common.

OS = Win 2000 Professional Edition
Mobo = Asus K8V Deluxe
Video = ATI Radeon X800 Pro 256 MB 😉
Ram = 1 gig
Sound = Soundblaster Live! 5.1

2.0.4 ?? There is a 2.1.0 beta somewhere. Get that and we can talk.

Well, apparently, I had both 2.0.4 and 2.1.0 installed, I don't know which one I was using, but now I just have 2.1.0, and its still doing the same thing. I've tried turning down the adlib frequency, didn't change anything. I've tried selecting different cards in the games sound setup, such as general midi, which does the same thing still. The music whens it plays sounds like it might be playing a little too slow, does that have anything to do with the voice problem?

You should never be able to have both 2.0.4 and 2.1.0 installed. Are you sure you didn't just have 2.0.4 with the Launchpad installed?

Yes, it’s my fault.

You'll have to tweak the buffers and other settings in the launchpad. We can't give you specific settings to use because mobo chipsets/processors/video cards/drivers are different between computers. You'll just have to site down and tweak until it sounds right.

Alright well, I don't know how it was before, but I completely uninstalled vdmsound, deleted the directory, everything except for maybe registry files. I then ran the 2.1.0 installer, so whatever version that would give me, thats what I have. Anyways, whats Launchpad exactly? And what buffer settings and options am I supposed to be tweaking, and am I supposed to be tweaking them in an ini or cfg file somewhere or are we still talking about the settings in the properties menu?

1. Create a short-cut to the program you want to run with VDMSound.
2. Right click the short-cut.
3. Select 'Properties...'

Alright, I'll tweak the settings a bit more then, see what happens. Is the emulator just not be up to handling adlib, and soundblaster emulation at the same time at too high qualities?

Ever thought of grabbing the Windows 95 version of tie fighter? It runs smooth (even got direct 3d support) on XP with the corresponding Compability Patch which is available on the lucas arts page.
