The last DOSBox SVN I tried where Disney Sound Source was working correctly was SVN 4000. In every build since then where I've tried the Disney Sound Source output is garbled and distorted. Has anyone else noticed this?

Disney Sound Source needs lockstep timing of the sound code and actual emulation, since it's essentially a dumb DAC sitting on the data pins of the parallel port, accepting samples at whatever rate the software timed sound code writes them to the port at.

It's all down to tight, accurate timing, since the Disney Sound Source has no timed DMA feeding it.

aside from possible improvements due to timing related rewrites, this sounds like another victim of the mixer rewrite

edit: found a problem and got a fix. However, will need to do some more tests

Awesome! I opened a bug report on it after posting:

https://sourceforge.net/p/dosbox/bugs/457/

EDIT:

Seems to be working again in r4019. 😀
