It crashes with an error on windows 98
Yep it will need to be DOS mode, and with an EMS driver loaded for Sound Blaster sound to work.
It's worth the effort. Turn up the volume 😎
Awesome! I will!
Thanks bjt
I am going to build a second one! 🤣
Would it be a good idea to change the motherboard for a Pentium Pro 200 (256K) / 128MB RAM ?
Or would it actually be a downgrade?
I'd call it an upgrade.
As you probably know Pentium Pro is optimised for 32 bit code, so this will preform better then your MMX chip.
16 bit, will be roughly about the same due to brute horse power,
So nothing lost in old dos games, and a gain in newer ones, I would call that a win!
Thank you chinny22! 😀
I mostly had 32 Bit software in mind when I was building this system.
Then I guess I will start looking around for a fitting heatsink.
I have a big collection of all kinds of heatsinks.
Is there any known DIY solution or should I buy a regular socket 8 heatsink?
This is the motherboard:

Unfortunately it wasn't this layout, maybe I can trade it with someone somewhere:

And yeah, just get a multimeter and probe the voltages (will have to be done while the computer is running-- DO NOT short any pins by accident).
On this note; it would be easy enough to identify the 5V and ground lines, but how do you differentiate Tx and Rx? Does anyone happen to know?
Arctic - I skimmed your thread after noticing you had a Banshee in it at one point. What sort of incompatibilities did you see?
I had the banshee installed for only a short time
and had some trouble with DOS games if I recall correctly.
Hi Arctic. Have you still a miroMedia Surround card in your system/collection? Cay you take a hires photo of both sides?
Yes that system is still alive 😀
I would have to take the card out. I will put a Caddy drive in it soon, then I could take some photos for you - if you are still interested 😎
Ok, the caddy is installed 😀
Next question:
AWE64 Gold ISA or AWE64 Value + SimmConn Value (32MB)?

Does anyone here know this card?
Dual Gameport Quickjoy "QJ" SV-209 8 Bit ISA (1992)
This is apparently its successor:
Quickjoy SV-210
Since that QJ SV-210 image is now gone, let me add local photos.
(BTW, why isn't every expansion card armoured like this? There is no reason to expose components incl. ant-sized SMD to mechanical wear and tear on bare PCBs, except planned obsolescence!)
