Looks like you just push down and slide out of the eye hole.

Socket A was pretty tight. Use a screwdriver securely inserted into the notch on the center to push down and then pull the upper end of it towards the heatsink.

An athlon xp 2200 (1.8ghz) is in there currently, would I really see a real-world performance improvement of 20-25% by putting a 2600 (2.2) in there? Might be more hassle than it's worth.
