I became curious about this, and it's a question I haven't found the answer for on the internet... Why is it possible to go beyond 100% cycles in DOSBox? This seems done on purpose, but what does setting it to 105% do exactly?

we strive for a 90% cpu usage (of your real processor) in auto cycles mode , to leave some room for other things (processes/threads). (which has become less important with all the dual/quatro core machines nowadays)

so by selecting 105%, you tell dosbox to use 90 * 1,05 ( =94,5%) of the cpu time on one of your cores.

Wow, thanks for the quick and clear response! That does sound like it would have made sense back when single-core CPUs were the most common.
